MAC 0’fer in NFL Draft

Almost done with 5 rounds. Very realistic chance 0 MAC players get drafted.

Danny Pinter from Ball State second player taken in the 5th round (149th overall).

That's the lowest for an initial pick from the MAC since 1996. Tells you something about the current level of talent in the MAC.

Miami's kicker was also drafted. You'll see a lot of guys from the MAC snatched up as UFA's.

2 guys drafted one being a kicker...Not exactly a good sign for the the conference. Not that producing pro prospects is the MAC’s calling card, but it says a lot about a sport that has 85 full scholarships per team and this is the output.

Totally agree. The negligence it took to hire Mike Jinks given the already changing landscape in 2015 was bad enough. Now you see the difference in the have’s and have nots in terms of product on the field. Yet, Toledo is paying a 6-6 coach, a million dollars. It’s the going rate, whatever. It’s negligence. This pandemic will expedite the necessary change. Hopefully, it doesn’t wipe it clean. Bob will give us the poor me card. Small budget, we do more with less,. He can look all around the campus and look at people who thought Mike Jinks made even a little sense. It was Monopoly money until now.

As pointing out on the Falcon blog, don't forget several MAC transfers were drafted and the lack of pro days certainly didn't help either. I don't get caught up in the total number of draft picks. While the number was low, this isn't something new or surprising. Yes, the MAC usually has more, sometimes many more, than the two from this year. But every year immediately following the draft, you see a collective group of guys sign as UFA's. And this isn't just limited to the MAC or Group of Five schools for that matter. There's very little separating fringe UFA's from the 6th or 7th round guys. The draft is capped at 7 rounds, but take a look at the vast number of guys in the NFL who were never drafted. And hell, look at the number of first rounders who were complete busts. To me, the back portion of the draft (6 & 7 rounds vs UFA's) is similar to what you see in college recruiting with two or three star-rated recruits compared to those without any. There's not a terrible amount of difference.
