What I think would be a very interesting lineup for us next year.

1 Turner 6-4 Sr (r) Metheny 5-11 R
2 Fields 6-2 Jr Zeigler 6-3 So Fulcher 6-2 R
3 Diggs 6-5 Sr Young 6-6 R
4 Plowden 6-6 Sr Turner 6-7 So
5 Kulackovskis 6-9 Jr (r) Swingle 6-11 So (t) Gadson 6-11 Jr (r)

I had been switching Plowden and Matiss in my head (4 and 5) recently. I guess I didn't realize how tall Matiss was. This seems like the ideal lineup, though I could see Zeigler starting over Fields.

I can just imagine that lineup on the floor. With Matiss at the 5, there is no lack of shooting out there. Zeigler/Fields/Turner/Plowden driving and kicking to Matiss/Diggs sounds like a killer combo, and the floor spacing would seemingly be fantastic. We don't have a big out there clogging the lane.

If Turner wants to go pro, and I think he can, let him play PG. With that group of Guards I would hope we start pressing more.

Even if he isn't a true PG, I think I see him bringing the ball up most of the time next year. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a condition of him coming back would be having the offense truly run through him.

Yes, there are times where his iso ball frustrates me. But it also works a lot of the time - and he's also a fairly good passer, too.

If you got an angry, athletic, active 5 who can block shots and rebound this is your MAC champion.

I think Zeigler and Fields both start, with Diggs being the sixth man. Small lineup with a focus on solid defense, but some good scoring talent, as well.

I think you're right that the odds on favorites to start at the 1-3 are Turner/Zeigler/Fields. But it's going to be a major problem (as it was this year after Frye's bail and return) if one or both of those guys cannot figure out a way to consistently contribute on offense.

Juice is a great #1 option. Plowden is a solid #2 option. You cannot play basketball with your #3-5 offensive options being virtual black holes of scoring. Yes, those 2 guards are very good defenders, and would give us some good perimeter defense but the only way it could possibly work is if they can go hyper aggressive press defense to generate easy offense on the other end. And if they ARE going to play that style, Swingle couldn't be a more awful fit for it.

You will get destroyed playing half court basketball with a lineup of Turner-Zeigler-Fields-Plowden-Swingle.

As much as I love all 3 of those returning guards, barring a breakthrough offensive development from Fields/Zeigler, I am really hopeful we start one of them alongside Diggs or one of the young wings (Turner/Young).

I think Fields and Zeigler, both, are much more talented offensively than we have seen, it just hasn't been part of their role, yet. I think Zeigler will turn into the #3 scorer this year (although Matheny looks to have the scoring instinct, too) and Fields offensive numbers will go up, too.

I personally want to see what Gadson can give us. He's actually pretty athletic. He just seemed awkward while playing in previous years, but I would hope he's worked past that. He might be that true 5 that we would want that is angry and athletic. I guess we just have to wait and see what shakes out with the lineup.

I'm not convinced that Fields does start, at least not until he improves his offensive game. Hopefully he will...he was better on offense as a freshman than a sophomore. Zeigler is an elite talent. I expect him to be a third option after Plowden and JTurner. With two high-caliber freshment coming in at his position (Fulcher and Metheny), Fields will be pushed hard.

Fwiw, imo Kula is actually a high-end talent who has gotten a lot stronger since showing up at BG. His floor game and passing are way above average for a 6-9 guy. Ideally, he'll play F, but he can rotate to C in certain half-court sets.

Kula and Zeigler seem to both have the potential to average in double digits. Zeigler can get by anybody when he puts the ball on the floor and gets up higher quicker than anybody. Kula is a 6-9 guy with NBA shooting range, but he's good around the basket and a hard-nosed eastern block warrior.

Plowden needs to get stronger and get better as a rhythm shooter. With strength, his handles will come. If he focuses in the off-season, he could be a 1st team all-MAC player and a solid NBA prospect.

Gadsen remains a mystery. He's gotten such little playing time that he seems more like an incoming freshman than a vet.
